Co-chairmen of Fuquay-Varina’s Centennial Commission Frances Senter (left) and Shirley Simmons display Keys to the City presented to them by Mayor John Byrne (center) last week at a town-sponsored dinner honoring all members of the Commission. Byrne said keys are usually reserved for significant visitors from out of town; however, he felt the work of the two Commission chairmen on behalf of the town was worthy of the special honor. Other commission members received framed certificates of appreciation. The group was particularly lauded by the commissioners for the quality of the projects carried out during the year and for planning events that drew many residents as well as visitors into the 100-year birthday celebration.
