Colleen has worked at the Fuquay-Varina Public Library for the past thirteen years. It is her love of people and books that drew her to the Wake County Public Library system many years ago – first as a volunteer in the original Apex library - then, later as staff in the new Eva Perry library and, finally, to the Fuquay-Varina library.
Although she will miss all the friends she has made at the library, Colleen is looking forward to “having the time to travel, socialize with friends and family and just enjoy life.” Colleen, who will be 82 in November, has traveled throughout the United States and Europe. She recently took a trip to Chattanooga, TN “just for fun” with her daughter, Lou. Her future travel plans could include a trip to the wild west of Wyoming & Montana. “I’ve always been curious about these places. I’ve heard that it is beautiful there.” She also enjoys a busy social calendar with her friends that would leave many of us exhausted.
Colleen says that she has enjoyed her time at the Fuquay-Varina Public Library. “Everyone has been so good to me and I’ve learned so much. I’ve seen this library grow and have made many friends throughout the years.”
Colleen has lived in eastern North Carolina all of her life and moved to Apex in 1969 with her late husband, the Reverend Bill Newman, when he began his appointment as Minister of the Apex United Methodist Church. Colleen’s daughter, Lou, and son, Bill live close by in Raleigh and Durham respectively. Colleen has two grandchildren in college, Emily and Gregory.
Join us in thanking Colleen for her many years of public service and in wishing her many more years of fun and enjoyment.
